5 Romantic Things To Do in San Francisco

Planning Resources

Are you visiting San Francisco soon or maybe even right now!? San Francisco is my favorite city in the whole world! And yes, I know that is a bold statement, and yes that statement is also biased but I mean what is there not to love? Between the Golden Gate Bridge, the endless foodie spots, the beach, the architecture, and beautiful homes there’s literally something for everyone. So, here are 5 romantic things to do in San Francisco while you’re visiting the city.

Romantic Things to Do in San Francisco

1. Eat your way through Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf

Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 are 100% tourist traps and yet I still love them nonetheless. Stopping here is literally a must; you didn’t really visit San Francisco if you don’t. Be sure to lazily walk from store to store wandering throughout Pier 39 being tempted to pick up the cutest trinkets and unique gifts. Some of my favorites are the crazy sock shop and the lefty store. and be sure to grab a light snack from Trish’s Donuts. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. 🤤

Then walk down to Fisherman’s Wharf stopping to see the street performers along the way. And then you MUST get lunch or dinner at Boudin’s. Only place in the world to get some authentic sourdough bread. And honestly, since you’re already there walk down a little to Gbriadelhi Square for a sundae you won’t regret it! This is such a fun romantic thing to do in San Francisco that can easily transport you back to visiting your local fair but with sea lions and donuts.

2. Visit the Conservatory of Flowers

The Conservatory of Flowers is located in Golden Gate Park, which can be a trek depending on what part of the city you’re staying in. I would recommend renting a bike, scooters, catching the bus or an uber and just exploring the park itself. Just over 1,000 acres Golden Gate Park is a perfect place to see a little bit of everything. You can get some exercise by going on a jog or visiting the Academy of Sciences or the De Young Museum. But, you can’t miss going to the Conservatory of Flowers. Tickets are $10 unless you go on the first Tuesday of the month. Walk through this beautiful greenhouse and get a reprise from the harsh SF winds.

3. Picnic at the Palace of Fine Arts

Visiting the Palace of Fine Art will almost transport you to a different city entirely. Though this venue can get a bit crowded on weekends there’s always lots of space in the grass area to make a picnic and just enjoy the view. You’re sure to be entertained by people watching, walking the grounds, enjoying a small picnic, or looking at the turtles and other wildlife swimming throughout the pond. There’s just something about this place that’s just so peaceful and romantic.

4. Morning walk along Marshall’s Beach

Walking along the beach is one of the most romantic things to do in San Francisco. Marshall’s Beach has one of my favorite views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sunrise at Marshall’s Beach is full of colors you will never forget. Finding parking, especially in the morning is typically easy. It can get a little chilly and breezy so be sure to bring a jacket and blanket and take a stroll along the beach and then snuggle up and watch the sunrise over the Golden Gate Bridge.

5. Photoshoot at the Sutro Baths

I love getting to visit the Sutro Baths. I feel like I always find something new to explore that I didn’t get to the last time I was there. Sutro Baths is a beautiful place to not only hike down and around. But it is a beautiful spot to get some photos during this trip that will last you a lifetime. There’s so much incredible history in the area and surrounding Adolph Sutro. The tremendous amount of money he put into San Francisco and the legacy that he left. This place is beautiful and like a little hidden gem.

If fact, all of these romantic things to do in San Francisco would be so fun to do during a photo session. Photo sessions don’t always have to be smiling and laughing at the camera. But, they can be doing something fun and new and creating memories with your favorite person. These are actually my favorite types of sessions. Couple dip kissing in San Francisco.

I only have amazing things to say about Torez! My fiance and I were looking into engagement photographers and we wanted someone who knew SF and was going to make sure we were nice and relaxed while taking photos. Torez jumped right on board when we said we wanted to take photos at our favorite local bar! On the day of, we had 1.5 hrs and it felt like it flew by in the best way possible. She was great at giving tips on how to pose and giving prompts for us to have fun and play around with each other. We started at the bar and then walked to a park nearby. She made sure to ask us if there were any specific photos we wanted captured and made sure it happened. We’re so thrilled with our photos and get so many compliments on them. Thank you Torez!!!

Booking with Torez was one of the best decisions we made when doing an anniversary mini session on our trip to San Francisco. We are from Calgary,AB Canada and were so nervous about booking something and came across Torez on instagram and fell in love with her style and her energy (the reels are amazing!). We reached out to her immediately and she was so quick with her response and was so flexible on coming up with a package that worked best for our budget and needs.

On the day of the shoot she was quick to text us about the weather down by the bridge (which was a classic foggy day!) and even offered to wait till the fog cleared. We thought this was so kind! We met up with Torez and immediately felt like friends. Through her clear directions and her understanding of what we wanted we ended up with the sweetest and loveliest photos that captured our favourite morning of the trip. We enjoyed listening to her music and just hanging out! If you are thinking of hiring Torez I would 1000000% recommend. She is so genuine and kind and makes you feel like a million bucks. If we are ever in the area again we would definitely call her up.

I had to vision to propose to my high school love and and now fiance in San Francisco, and I wanted to make sure this moment was captured just right, especially being 2600+ miles away in Toronto, on opposite sides of the continent. Upon searching Google and Instagram (@torezmarguerite), I immediately fell in love with the aesthetic of Torez’ previously posted work. It had the magical look I was looking for! From the moment I reached out, she was warm, collaborative, provided input where I asked for feedback, and ultimately supported the vision I wanted to create (and even elevated it).

Every step was clear, and communication was warm and easy! Of all the nerves that could come from planning the perfect cross-continent proposal, this was one of the easiest and seamless parts. The day came, and Torez was there as planned, and capture the surprise moment beautiful. After introducing herself during the shoot, she was easy and flexible to advise and take photos of us and our loved ones hiding in the wings, suggesting poses and scenarios that definitely turned out beautiful. Within less than 12 hours, we got a handful of beautiful sneak preview shots. This was perfect and added to the high of the day.

And just as promised, we had all the photos within the agreed weeks deadline. Everything went so smoothly and beautifully, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing (even the weather cooperated). If anyone is looking for a sign to book this wonderful photographer for all of your Bay Area needs, THIS IS YOUR SIGN. Highly recommended without reservations. Thank you for everything, Torez! Until we meet again.
