Engagement Photos on the Beach in Big Sur | Monica + José

Engagements

I’d been dying to get to Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur. I absolutely love Big Sur, it holds such a special place in my heart that I can’t quite describe. And when Monica talked to me about during their engagement photos on the beach in Big Sur I knew we’d have so much fun! The drive along the coast is irreplaceable. The cute eateries and acceptance of dogs in Carmel make it basically like Disneyland. And I will literally ALWAYS be down for a trip. This was actually my first time at Pfeiffer beach. It was on my list of beaches in Big Sur that are a must!

Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur is definitely off the beaten path but that’s what makes it so unique. Off of Highway 1 if you’re not paying close enough attention you might just miss the turn-off. I know I almost did. If you’re familiar with the Big Sur area you’ll know once you pass Carmel and really get driving along the coast the cell reception is nonexistent. The road down to the beach is a twisty 2 miles but well worth the potential car sickness.

Since this was my first time at Pfieffer Beach in Big Sur I really didn’t know what to expect. But, as I apologized to Monica and Jose for the windy weather she told me oh it’s always like this. And either way, these Pfeiffer beach engagement photos were a dream to take even if I thought I was going to physically be blown away.

I’m always down for a trip to the beach and being able to capture two people in a place that holds a special place in their hearts is what makes my job the best EVER. Monica and José look so happily in love and carefree. But, guys it was freezing cold. Like literally, I put boots on because the wind was blowing the sand so hard it literally hurt.

Meeting Monica and Jose were so fun, despite us having to basically yell at each other to hear one another. Getting to hear more about them and why they love Big Sur and their story just makes me feel so grateful for the people photography allows me to meet!

Monica and Jose first met in college during welcome week during an event where they danced the night away. One thing led to another and here they are so many years later more in love than ever.

Preparing for your Engagement Photos on the Beach

Are you having your engagement photos on the beach then here are some quick tips to give you the best experience possible! Shoes are completely optional. You might want to bring some flip flops or tennis shoes if we’re doing some light hiking to the perfect spot! There will most likely be lots of wind so if you plan to wear your hair down know that it may look a little different after your session.

I recommend wearing jeans and a sweater or a flowy dress for the ladies! These are both super cute options that work great for lots of movement. For the guys, I’d recommend keeping it super simple with either jeans or casual dress pants and a button-up. If you are unsure or have any questions I have a whole guide that I send to all of my clients.

These beach engagement photos are some of my absolute favorites! What to see some other beach engagement photos in Big Sur check out this session! Check out some more of my Big Sur weddings here!
