Chaviea and Andrew recently moved to the Bay Area and wanted romantic, almost Renaissance-style engagement photos. We talked about some Filoli garden engagement photos but eventually learned they opened a little later than we hoped. So, we decided to go to Pulgas Water Temple first and have a little picnic before going to Filoli.
Pulgas Water Temple is such a scenic hidden gem park. Parking and admission is free and they grounds are immaculately kept.
We had a gorgeous day at Pulgas Water Temple. And I loved bringing this little film camera and seeing the perspectives of Chaviea and Andrew taking photos of each other.
We set up this cute little picnic with cheese and bread, and some apple cider but safety first and no drinking and driving.
We explored Pulgas Water Temple before we headed over to take their Filoli engagement photos. And since it was a weekday basically no one was there and we had the place to ourselves.
Tips your Filoli Engagement Photos
- If you can plan for your Filoli engagement photos to be a weekday that would be best. A ton of people every day go to walk the ground at Filoli and there will be significantly less people if you do on a weekday.
- Go either the first hour of them opening or the last 1-2 hours before they close. That way you can hopefully have minimal crowds.
- Pay in advance so you have easy seamless entry. And usually you have to wear wristbands see if the person working at Filoli can tag your photographer’s back so you don’t have to wear them in the photos.
- Do not wear anything resembling a wedding dress. While they do allow engagement photos they do not allow any portraits on property for bride and groom style photos unless you book Filoli for your wedding venue.
Chaviea and Andrew are originally from San Diego and only recently moved to the Bay Area. They actually got engaged in Miami at the Miami Botanical Garden. But, Chaviea had orange hair at the time and I quote “like Ice Spice,” and she though she gets happy memories when she looks at those photos the hair was a little distracting.
So, she was excited to collaborate and bring her vision to life.
