This Vizcaya Museum photoshoot was a dream come true! I had the honor of photographing Tabitha and Jesse’s wedding earlier this year and so of course we had to reconnect in Miami for more photos and to catch a little.
I’ve been to Vizcaya several times now and nothing comes to it in the early morning. And I don’t know if I would consider 8 am that early. But, on a Saturday in the fall, we had the entire garden to ourselves. So, it’s safe to say that the early morning permit access is definitely worth it!
Vizcaya Museum and Garden is located in Coconut Grove and was John Deering’s winter house in the early 1900s. What was once a 180-acre estate is now 50 acres of land including the house, garden, and remaining native forest. Every day hundreds of people flock to Vizcaya to see its beauty in person and admire the grounds. The villa’s museum contains more than seventy rooms of distinctive architectural interiors decorated with numerous antiques. They often host events including weddings, parties, and even free markets.
Tabitha and Jesse met in high school! Tabitha’s senior year and Jesse’s sophomore. Tabitha had lots of classes with Jesse’s brother and introduced them on Valentine’s day. And you could say that the rest was history. Like any teenage girl Tabitha immediately went to follow him on Instagram and just so happened to like all his photos. That was when Jesse knew his weird could match hers.
Tips for a Vizcaya Museum Photoshoot
- There are several different permits that you need to purchase for a Vizcaya Museum Photoshoot. The early access for the garden at 8 am is well worth it.
- If you don’t want to opt for the early access permit aim for a weekday about 2 hours before close so that way there are less people around and it’s also cooler.
- If you plan on wearing heels make sure they are comfortable. I would highly recommend block heels too as the ground is uneven and stilettos would make it very hard to navigate.
- Bring a tote for anything you want to want to bring even if it’s a comfortable pair of shoes to change into. That way I can easily carry the bag for you during our session.
- Bring fans and water – unless you opt for the premium access entry indoor permit then your session will be completely outside and it can definitely get hot.
Tabitha and Jess have been so incredibly kind, helpful, and supportive of my move to Miami. I truly have the best clients ever! Word of mouth means sooo much in this industry and they have been helping spread the word about me and my photography services throughout southern Florida. Now that I’m a little closer than California I can’t wait to see their relationship and family grow!
Review from Tabitha & Jesse
“There aren’t enough words or stars to compliment Torez and her dedication to her work. We spent a year planning, consulting, and preparing with her to photograph our wedding morning and ceremony. We live in Florida and Torez made it SO easy to work with her from across the country! She goes above and beyond, truly. Not just her amazing photograph skills but also constant communication, friendliness, and expertise. We did our ceremony at city hall and she helped us from start to finish including a timeline, meetings over the phone, videos of potential places we wanted to take our guests to eat, and when we visited she met us for coffee. She always has a smile on her face and seems to enjoy what she does. We got back more than we expected for a REALLY good price.
Not just digital photos, but film, and video clips! It was heart melting to hear her little “Aww”s and laughs behind the scenes in footage. We were thrilled to also get back sneak peaks the next day before we even flew back home! I would easily book her again and possibly fly her out to us for future big events! I never felt rushed or like I was a bother the many times I reached out. Over instagram, I would send inspiration pictures to make sure she got the vibe and she nailed it. The day of she met us bright and early, set up a first look and captured every moment wonderfully for the 3 hours we booked her. I have only received our sneak peaks and I recommend her 10/10 easily based on all she does.” – Tabitha & Jesse
Vizcaya has sooo many gorgeous spots around the garden and main house. It truly is the perfect location for engagement photos or wedding portraits that have that romantic and timeless feel. You truly could get lost exploring the gardens there is so much to see.
Tips for What to Wear for your Vizcaya Museum Photoshoot
Dress It Up!
There is no such thing as “too dressy” for your portrait session. Dressy photos always stand out amongst those who go the more casual route, and they are so captivating to see. You’ll be sure to turn heads as you walk on the scene looking fantastic!
Bring More than One Option
When in doubt the more options the better. But, it can also be a good idea to bring a casual outfit and a more fun one to spice things up!
If you’ve been thinking about a VIzacay Museum photoshoot then take this as your sign and book it! Trust me you won’t regret it. The garden feels like you’re walking through a fairytale garden. Every corner of this place is beautiful and is the perfect backdrop for capturing photos of whatever stage of life you’re in.
