Miami Engagement Photos | Macy & Will

Engagements

First Miami session in the books and I’m SO obsessed with how everything turned out. We had the most perfect weather, a busy beach that wasn’t too busy if you know what I mean, and an absolutely in-love couple. All the making of perfect Miami engagement photos.

The film photos are absolutely to die for so don’t mind me as I scroll through these photos a few times. Kodak Porta 400 is officially now my favorite film stock

About Macy & Will

Like many couples these days Macy and Will met the old-fashioned way on the internet. And on Hinge for that matter! I know the dating app designed to be deleted worked for them and they’ve been inseparable ever since. They originally met in Los Angeles and fell in love soaking in the California sun and trying new food spots in Venice Beach. But, with Will’s family being in New York they knew California wouldn’t make the most sense to be their forever home. So, they packed everything up and 2 years ago moved to Miami where they have been absolutely loving it!

And then last year they decided to become pawrents to their adorable dachshund Rio, who was the absolute star of the session. Macy was completely surprised by Will’s intimate proposal in their apartment in Miami and immediately said yes followed by happy tears. And it was only natural that they both wanted to include their son in their session.

We had so much fun exploring Hobie Beach. It was absolutely perfect morning not too hot and not too humid yet. The shade definitely helped while we ran around and had some family cuddles on the beach.

Tips for Miami Engagement Photos

Get There Early
If you want Miami engagement photos at the beach I HIGHLY recommend you get there early. About 30 minutes to an hour before sunrise. This was my first time photographing a couple in Miami and why San Francisco has many beautiful places for sunrise none of them are as busy as the beach during sunrise. I was shocked, to say the least. So, get there early and be prepared to fight for parking.

Plan a Weekday Session
Plan a weekday day session if possible. Weekends can be chaotic at the beach or really anywhere in Miami Beach or Miami so if you can swing a weekday session is 100% worth it.

Be Prepared for Crowds
Plan your session during the shoulder seasons if you can help it. Summers can be absolutely sweltering and the high season can be packed with tourists and have crazy traffic. If you can plan your engagement session should shoulder seasons like April, May, and October. That will drastically help the session feel more intimate.

What to Wear for Your Miami Engagement Photos

Dress It Up!
There is no such thing as “too dressy” for your portrait session. Dressy photos always stand out amongst those who go the more casual route, and they are so captivating to see. You’ll be sure to turn heads as you walk on the scene looking fantastic!

Try to Avoid “Matchy-Matchy”
Although it may be tempting to dress everyone up in the same plaid print or in that white tee and jeans, photos really look stunning when there is nice coordination without overly matching. I typically suggest dressing no more than two people up in the same print or color. This helps to balance out your photos so the attention is drawn to YOU!

Pick a Color Palette
Instead of having everyone wear the same color, try picking two or three colors that blend well together and coordinate that way! Try experimenting with different shades of colors, or adding different prints or fabrics to the mix.

Bring More than One Option
When in doubt the more options the better. But, it can also be a good idea to bring a casual outfit and a more fun one to spice things up!
