Engagement Photos on Beach in Big Sur || Chelsea + Marcus

Garapata Beach in Big Sur is one of my favorite spots in all of Big Sur…. heck in all of the Monterey area for that matter. It’s really nice because it’s kind of secluded. These engagement photos on the beach can clearly show you why. But, the short little five-minute walk down to the beach is SO worth it. The whole area of the beach isn’t very long but honestly, there’s not a whole of people so everyone has plenty of space to spread out and do their own thing.

The sand is so soft you’ll feel like you’re in Hawaii. And the view of the hills will honestly make you think you’ve magically been transported there. Since the beach is pretty secluded you can be sure that you won’t feel embarrassed or nervous to just freely be who you are. Garapata Beach hits the little cell phone barrier so, you will have ZERO service. Everyone can unplug, have a great time, and just focus on being present.

Depending on the season sunrise or sunrise might be better here for pictures. In the summertime, the fog tends to roll over during sunset so it’s hard to get those really pretty skies. Typically sunrise works best. During the fall, however, it is so clear and still warm so it’s well worth the wait for some sunset stunners!

I loved getting to take this engagement photos on the beach in Big Sur for Chelsea and Marcus. They were both so fun and ready to do get down in the sand and a little dirty. Just focus on the love and everything else will come naturally. Chelsea and Marcus met in high school believe it or not and have made it through all the ups and downs of graduating twice! From proms to long-distance and everything in between their love story has been through all of it! Which makes this new chapter in their relationship all the more special.

Preparing for Your Engagement Photos on the Beach

Are you having your engagement photos in Big Sur then here are some quick tips to give you the best experience possible! Shoes are completely optional especially if we’re on the beach. You might want to bring some flip-flops or tennis shoes if you do some light hiking to the perfect spot! There will most likely be lots of wind so if you plan to wear your hair down know that it may look a little different after your session.

I recommend wearing jeans and a sweater or a flowy dress for the ladies! These are both super cute options that work great for movement. For the guys, I’d recommend keeping it super simple with either jeans or casual dress pants and a button-up. If you are unsure or have any questions I have a whole guide that I send to all of my clients.
